My Night at the Pan Am Hall of Honor

Within the last two years, I have gotten a chance to learn from and get to know the Canadian icon that is Marilyn Bell. She has shared so much of her experience with me and I am so thankful! Which is why I was so honored to be asked represent her at the unveiling of the Toronto Hall of Honor. Said exhibit was created to promote some of the exceptional accomplishments of the athletes and role models that have brought honor to Toronto. I could agree more that Marilyn more than deserved to be honored based on this definition. Marilyn was recognized under the legends category. She laughed early that week on the phone with me saying, “You have to be pretty old to get into that one!” My mom and my sister were here as well and that night we met so many incredible athletes like Vaune Davis and Paul Rosen. I don’t think I have ever been in a room with so many ultra-distance and high-performance athletes like myself. Listening to their stories and the things they have overcome was so inspiring and this week as I am studying for a pretty big History test, finishing report cards for all of the little kids I’m teaching swim lessons to and trying to get in the hours of training I need to complete, I am not going to complain once, because tonight was a refreshing reminder. A reminder that sometimes I may feel overwhelmed by all that I do, but the truth is I do all of this work because I love the water, I love my sport, and I love that my work can help others in my community!
