Michaela's first marathon
This was no ordinary Saturday for us! Marilyn Korzekwa was my swim master for Lake Ontario and a large part of the success behind my swim across this lake. Marilyn, joined my sister and I for a marathon swim at Ridley College. We started out with my swim team and then finished up with Marilyn.
We each swam 10km. Marilyn and I did freestyle and Michaela did butterfly.
This was Michaela’s first marathon. She fought a hard battle to get it done today. She was already tired before she started and her horrible seasonal allergies kicked into high gear the day before. She was full of Benadryl and tried not to rub her eyes throughout the swim.
What I enjoyed most about this swim was finishing up and then encouraging Michaela the rest of the way! Michaela cheered me on, counted laps for me and paddled for hours in a kayak for me. I finished up my 10k and loved watching Michaela discover the mental game that is marathon swimming.
What a neat day. My sister finished her first marathon in a yard pool- which is about 440 laps of the pool with my swim master right beside her.
